Atzompa Village

Atzompa is a tiny village in Mexico known for it's pottery. The village's livelihood has long depended on the production of pots fired in wood fired ovens, but the pottery and the village shot to fame when Nelson Rockefeller bought 67 mother earth figures from Teodora Blanca and her family. Atzompa pots are decorated with beautifully detailed blossoms, vines, etc. The munecas, or figures, are fanciful and intricate. The pottery is usually left unglazed highlighting the sculptural quality. Atzompa pottery has become a unique and very collectible art form as well as a beautiful addition to any decor.
